3 Easy Ways to Level Up Your Freelance Career

You might think that you are already successful in your freelance career.

You work at home at your convenience, you manage your own time, and you make money to get what you want.

But you know what, that isn’t enough.

Yes, let’s say you have a 100% job success rate on Upwork or any freelancing sites.

And you can get the job you want, anytime.

But if you think it wisely, you are still working with a boss (client).

Why does it matter?

Simply because you will not be paid if you do not work.

And the tendency is you will be working for the rest of your life with just a little savings.

Yes. That’s the sad truth. So, don’t commit the same mistakes like our parents do in their generation.

If you can relate to this, our parents always been telling us to take our school very seriously. So we can graduate and have a job, then we get what we want.

But I tell you now, that getting a job isn’t the best way to earn a living.

And if you are already in freelance career, I would way say that you are on the right track.

Though you need to level up what you have started.

Luckily, there are ways that you can do, and it is never too late to start.

So, how can you level up your freelance career?

I have listed 3 ways in which you can start doing right now:

  • Start a blog
  • Create an agency
  • Make your own business

Level Up Your Freelance Career

1. Start a blog

I would say that this is the easiest and the best way to level up your freelance career.

And it is not only for freelancers, even ordinary people can start a blog. No experience required, that’s the reason why it is the easiest.

There is so much more that you can do when you have your own blog. Plus, you have an edge to the rest of freelancers out there.

My wife opens the door in freelancing (land a job on Upwork) when she started to blog.

Just in case you didn’t know, you can make a ton of money on blogging.

How much?

Professional Blogger like Pat Flynn made $258,737 just last March 2017.

I’m sure that you have now a big picture how much you can earn on blogging.

And if you are asking how you can make money blogging?

There are several ways, but I categorized it into 5 types:

  • Affiliates
  • Sponsorship
  • Products
  • Services

I’m going to give you a brief explanation of these 5 categories.

Advertisement – This is the most common way to make money on blogging. And it has been dominated by Google Ads which you’d usually see on the sidebar, bottom or top portion of a blog.

Affiliates – Where you can get commissions by selling other company products, like Amazon, eBay, and some blogging tools and services (BluehostConvertKit, etc…).

Sponsorship – You are getting paid for mentioning a product in your posts, or in a podcast which has been very popular nowadays.

Products – You can create your own products like eBooks, or eCourses and sell it to your readers. This could be your main goal, to create your own products. Though it will take a lot of time.

Services – You are a freelancer, that means you already have the skills. You can create a “Hire Me” page on your blog to sell your skills. So that anyone can contact you if they need an assistance, it can be a training, consulting, or coaching.

If you need help in starting your own blog, I can help you with that.

You may have thought that there’s no way for you to be successful in blog because all niches/topics already existed.

Well, that’s also what I thought a few years ago.

But you know what, there is always a new generation. Every year, millions of students graduate from High School and Universities who are still newbies to the online world.

So everybody has a chance to be successful, and this cycle will never end.

It’s just a matter on how determine you are to be successful in your blog.

2. Create an agency

It doesn’t have to be an agency at first, but you can start by creating your own small team.

Now the questions is, how?

You have your own tasks, right?

Why not hire someone else and train them to do the task you are currently doing right now. It can be your friend, brother, sister, or even a person you are not related to.

That means it will free up your time and you can get other clients that need your help.

And once you are familiar with the tasks, delegate it to someone else.

Just do the same process until you get more clients, and more people on your team.

Then you can create your own agency. By this time, you don’t have to eventually work, you just need to manage your team.

As you get more clients, your team also grows bigger and bigger.

But always provide a quality work.

3. Make your own business

Online business is very popular nowadays because of online tools which make it easier.

But it doesn’t have to be an online business if you don’t want to. Though it will boost your productivity and sales if you have a website.

There are several types of business that you can try, but I will give the top 4 types of businesses.

Service – This is more like a freelancing. You are giving your service to clients who are in need of your expertise.

Merchandising – A buy and sell business.  You are buying products for wholesale and reselling them at retail price.

Franchising – You are using another company’s successful business model. In simplest form, it is an agreement/licensed between two parties, the franchisee and franchisor.

Manufacturing – You create your own product. You buy raw materials to make your own product and sell it.

Selecting a business is like choosing a niche/topic on your blog. You need to find what is your passion.

You don’t want to start a business just because it is trending today. It will fade anyway.

Do start a business which you really like and you will not lose interest.

Conclusion:

If you haven’t noticed, these 3 ways only lead to one direction, and that is, to start your own business.

Don’t be afraid to fail, because failure is always part of success. You should be afraid of not trying, and someone else does then succeed.

What matters most is you have started, and you have learned.

I actually failed in blog more than 10 times, but that’s not stopping me to do what I want.

Just like the old saying, “Try and try until you succeed.”
